Steel darts have a fixed metal tip and are thrown at classic sisal dartboards. Soft darts have a plastic tip and are intended for electronic dartboards. In addition, they usually differ in weight: steel darts are generally heavier, while for e-darts, certain weight limits of the machine must be observed.

For beginners, steel darts weighing around 22 to 24 grams are a good choice. For soft tip darts, 18 to 20 grams are often suitable. A slightly higher weight can initially ensure a smoother and more stable flight. However, the crucial factor is that the dart feels comfortable and controllable when thrown.

The right dart depends on your throwing style, grip position, and personal preferences. Pay particular attention to weight, barrel shape, and grip. If possible, try out different models and don't judge a new dart after just a few throws – it often takes some time to get used to a new setup.

Straight barrels offer a lot of space for different grip positions and are therefore suitable for many players. Teardrop or torpedo-shaped barrels are particularly comfortable to hold if you grip the dart more in the middle or further forward. The decisive factor is that you can easily find your grip position again and release the dart cleanly.

Tungsten, or Wolfram in German, is a particularly dense material. The higher the tungsten content, the slimmer a barrel can be manufactured at the same weight. Slimmer darts can be placed closer together on the board. A high tungsten content is therefore a sign of quality, but it doesn't automatically make a dart better for every player.

A light to medium grip is suitable for many players and usually allows for a clean release. A strong grip offers more hold, but can get stuck on the finger and thus affect the throw. If you have rather dry or smooth hands, a stronger grip can be helpful. It is important that you hold the dart securely without tensing up.

For steel tip darts, the specified weight usually refers to the barrel including the tip, but without the shaft and flight. For soft tip darts, the weight of the complete dart is often specified. Since this can vary depending on the manufacturer, you should always refer to the information in the respective product description.

In most cases, yes, as many darts, shafts, and tips use a standardized 2BA thread. Flights can also be combined with most conventional shafts. The ideal shaft length depends on your throwing style and desired trajectory. Short shafts often result in a more direct flight, while longer shafts can stabilize the dart more effectively. Classic steel-tip dart points, on the other hand, are usually pressed into the barrel and require a special point exchange tool for replacement. With screw systems like Swiss Point, the replacement is done with the appropriate tool.

This depends on the point system of your barrel. Classic steel dart barrels usually use pressed-in points that are exchanged with a point exchange tool. Barrels with a special screw system require the corresponding replacement points of that system. Therefore, make sure whether your dart uses classic pressed-in points or a manufacturer-specific interchangeable point system.

If the threaded part gets stuck in the barrel, you can usually unscrew it with a special shaft remover. Gently press the tool onto the broken piece and turn it counter-clockwise. Alternatively, for plastic shafts, the tip of a small screwdriver can sometimes help. Work without force to avoid damaging the thread in the barrel.

For steel-tip darts, a high-quality sisal dartboard with thin wiring and a staple-free bullseye is recommended. It offers fewer bounce-outs and, with regular care, will last a long time. If you want automatic scoring and various game modes, an electronic dartboard for soft-tip darts is the right choice. Also, make sure there is enough space around the board.

The lifespan depends on the quality of the board, its use, and maintenance. A high-quality sisal dartboard can last several years with private use. Rotate the board regularly to ensure that frequently used areas, such as the 20, do not wear out unevenly. The board should be replaced at the latest when darts frequently fall out or the playing surface is severely damaged.

Keep your dartboard dry and at a consistent room temperature whenever possible. Direct sunlight, high humidity, and extreme temperature fluctuations can damage the sisal fibers. The board should not be cleaned or moistened with water. If necessary, carefully remove dust with a dry, soft cloth or a soft brush.

The bullseye is mounted at a height of 1.73 meters above the floor. For steel-tip darts, the horizontal distance from the front of the board to the throw line is 2.37 meters.
