Caliburn EVO Points
Caliburn EVO Points – Replacement Tips for Classic Steel Darts
Caliburn EVO Points offer a particularly interesting way to retrofit classic steel darts with a replaceable tip system. Unlike many other systems, you do not need a specially designed replaceable tip barrel for this. Instead, a small Caliburn EVO Spigot is pressed into the existing tip receptacle of a normal steel dart barrel. The matching EVO Points can then simply be screwed onto this spigot and changed in a matter of seconds if required.
This makes the Caliburn EVO System particularly suitable for dart players who want to continue using their existing steel darts and still benefit from the advantages of modern interchangeable tips.
At Diplomatgames you will find Caliburn EVO Points in various lengths, colours and grip variants, as well as the necessary accessories for mounting and changing the tips.
How does the Caliburn EVO System work?
The EVO System fundamentally differs from interchangeable tip systems that already require a special receptacle in the barrel.
The system essentially consists of two components:
- EVO Spigot – is pressed into the steel dart barrel
- EVO Point – is screwed onto the inserted spigot
For the initial conversion, the existing steel dart tip is first removed with a classic Repointer. Then, the appropriate EVO Spigot is pressed into the barrel using the designated EVO Repoint Tool.
Once the spigot is correctly mounted, it remains in the barrel. The actual EVO tip can then be quickly loosened with the EVO Point Driver Tool and replaced with another variant.
The big advantage: Retrofitting normal steel darts
This is precisely where the special feature of the Caliburn EVO System lies.
While other interchangeable tip systems require a specially designed barrel, EVO was developed to retrofit many conventional steel dart barrels with interchangeable tips.
This means:
Do you own a steel dart with classic pressed-in tips, but would like to use different tip lengths or grip variants in the future?
Then the Caliburn EVO System can be an interesting alternative to buying a completely new dart set.
EVO Spigots in different sizes
Since the bores or tip receptacles of steel dart barrels do not always have exactly the same diameter, Caliburn EVO Spigots are available in different sizes.
For example, the EVO Starter Kit includes spigots in the following diameters:
- 2.33 mm
- 2.34 mm
- 2.35 mm
This allows the correct spigot to be selected for the respective barrel.
Choosing the right size is important: the spigot must sit securely in the barrel and be pressed in correctly.
What do I need for the initial conversion?
If you want to convert a normal steel dart to the Caliburn EVO System for the first time, you need more than just the EVO Points.
For the initial installation, you will need:
- Caliburn EVO Spigots
- Caliburn EVO Repoint Tool
- EVO Point Driver Tool
- classic dart repointer for pressing out and in
- matching Caliburn EVO Points
A practical option for getting started is the Caliburn EVO Starter Kit, which contains important EVO components for the conversion.
Important: A classic repointer is still required for the initial conversion.
Once the EVO Spigot is installed in the barrel, the repointer is no longer needed for a normal change of the EVO Points.
Quickly change EVO Points afterwards
After the one-time installation of the EVO Spigot, the system shows its real advantage.
The EVO Points are screwed onto the spigot and can be loosened and fastened with the appropriate EVO Point Driver.
This allows you to, for example:
- replace a damaged tip
- try a different tip length
- switch between smooth and textured tips
- change the finger grip
- adjust the look of your dart setup
The change takes only a few moments and does not require the spigot to be pressed out again.
Various Caliburn EVO Points
Numerous tip variants are available for the EVO System. These differ, among other things, in length, surface, grip and colour.
Depending on the range, you will find, for example:
- Smooth Points
- Micro Grip Points
- Ripple Points
- Spiro Points
- No-Lip variants
- other grip and design variants
This allows a dart that has already been converted to be adapted very flexibly to personal requirements.
Various tip lengths
Caliburn offers EVO Points in different lengths. Depending on the model, variants with, for example:
- 28 mm
- 32 mm
- 36 mm
- 40 mm
are available.
This allows you to adjust not only the grip profile but also the length of the tip to your personal setup.
Which tip length suits me?
The tip length can influence the entire dart setup.
Shorter EVO Points provide a more compact setup and are suitable for players who prefer a classic steel dart feel.
Medium tips offer a good compromise between a compact dart and sufficient distance between barrel and board.
Longer EVO Points can be interesting for tight groupings, as the barrels are further away from the dartboard, which can create additional space for subsequent darts.
Ultimately, the optimal length depends on the dart, the throwing technique and personal preferences.
Smooth, finger grip or board grip?
Different surfaces can also be selected for the EVO Points.
Smooth EVO Points
Smooth tips offer a classic playing feel and are suitable for players who do not need additional grip on the tip.
EVO Points with finger grip
Players who position a finger on the tip during the throw can choose a variant with a structured grip zone. This can provide an additional point of orientation for a consistent finger position.
EVO Points with board grip
Structures in the front area can create additional grip in the sisal and thus reduce the risk of a dart falling out of the board.
However, very aggressive structures can also put more strain on the dartboard.
No-Lip EVO Points
The No-Lip variants are particularly interesting. They have been designed so that there is as smooth a transition as possible between the tip and the barrel.
A smooth transition can be helpful for tight groupings, as subsequent darts are less likely to be deflected by a pronounced edge between the tip and the barrel.
Caliburn EVO or classic interchangeable tip system?
The decisive difference lies in the design.
| Caliburn EVO | Classic Interchangeable Tip System |
|---|---|
| can retrofit many normal steel dart barrels | usually requires a specially designed barrel |
| spigot is pressed in once | interchangeable receptacle already in the barrel |
| then tips can be changed quickly | tips can also be changed quickly |
| repointer required for initial assembly | usually no repointer required |
| existing steel darts can continue to be used | matching system dart required |
Especially for players who already have a favourite dart, the EVO System is therefore particularly interesting.
Important before buying
If your dart has not yet been converted to the EVO System, buying a set of EVO Points alone is not enough.
You will first need a suitable EVO Spigot and the necessary tools for installation.
If your darts already have correctly installed EVO Spigots, you can then simply buy the desired Caliburn EVO Points and change the tips with the Point Driver.
